Cookies Anyone?

Last Tuesday was our regular day to teach card making at WFSC.  Susan Quindry, one of our executive board members was there and was gracious enough to send the following recount of the day.

What a wonderful day we had on yesterday (Tues March 18, 2014).  An anonymous donor through the Girl Scout Troop #17417 of Katy, TX and the Ephraim Andrews Chapter of the DAR of Fredericksburg, TX donated 800 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to be distributed to active military at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio.

We enlisted our volunteers to come with us and help with the distribution.  Richard Gray and Bobbi Grimmer along with Sharon Massey, Stacy Johnson, Rhonda Strelke, and Susan Quindry made the deliveries.  The cookies were distributed to Fisher House, The Intrepid, the 4th floor burn unit of BAMC hospital, Navy, Marine, Powless Hotel, the barracks and Warrior Family Support Center (WFSC).

While the distribution was going on, Lisa Davis was conducting a card making class at WFSC for the wives of the wounded warriors.  Lunch was provided by the Wounded Warrior at Nebo ministry and fun was had by all.

What a beautiful day we enjoyed surrounded by the special people who serve our country to give us our freedom.  THANK YOU!

Challenges Met!!

Recently an anonymous supporter issued a $500 challenge.  He/she would match every donation dollar for dollar up to $500.  The funds to be used for March R&R for wounded warriors and their families.

 You all met the challenge!!
 Thank you

This month's R&R over laps with Spring Break so guest houses, B&Bs, etc. that are normally donated for the warriors' use are not available.  That means we have to go to hotels to house our guests.  The funds will really help.

Also, as you probably read in an earlier blog, Mike & Debbie McCurdy issued the same type of challenge for April's R&R. They will match donations up to $500.  These funds will also go toward housing since April is one of the busiest months for B&B and guest house rentals.

You Did It!!  The challenge has been met.
               THANK YOU!

GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU

February R&R for Wounded Warriors

What a great weather for an R&R weekend!!  We had 7 wounded warriors & family members; the Chaplain & his family for a total of 20 guests.
Some of the "Presbyterian Worker Bees"

Memorial Presbyterian Church provided Friday night dinner for everyone. Besides preparing a delicious meal, there were several Presbyterians there to greet the warriors as they arrived making them feel welcome.

What made it doubly nice was many of the host couples were there to meet and visit with "their family" during dinner.  The church's generosity didn't stop with the fine hospitality & dinner. They presented Wounded Warriors at Nebo with a $350 donation for future events.

The only "group" activity for Saturday was dinner at Andy's Steak and Seafood Grill so everyone could do their own thing.  Some explored the shops on main street, Chaplain Ginsburg & son Bryce climbed a wall at Enchanted Rock while several just "hung out" enjoying the peace & quiet of the Hill Country.  Dinner was Chicken Fried Steak and all the trimmings-DONATED by Andy's!!  Bless you, Don, for your generosity!!  A bonus was Jenelle Ginsburg agreeing to sing a couple of songs.  What an incredible voice! Check out the video on facebook facebook.com/ww.nebo to hear her.

After dinner some went to the Rock Box, some to Fritztown Cinema (tickets donated) and several went to see Little Shop of  Horrors at Fredericksburg Theater Company (tickets donated).

Samantha & James
The Davis' will soon be returning to North Carolina so this may be the last event they can attend. They will be missed.  Following is a note they gave us at dinner.

  • "Ladies, James & I have been beyond blessed to have met each of you! Thank you so much for the wonderful weekends you have been able to plan for us. We look forward to telling our friends and family back home about the Ladies at Nebo!!  signed, Samantha Davis & James Davis."
We wish the Davis' well.

It's notes like this and the verbal "notes of gratitude" and of course the hugs we receive that give us conformation we are following GOD'S plan.  However, none of these events would be possible without your support.  We thank all of you who have provided funds to continue serving the warriors. Believe it or not it takes more than funding to provide an R&R weekend.  The following people, business and churches  provided the additional support.
